While this site is still under construction, it is hoped that when completed it will provide a valuable resource for students and teachers in the Truckee Meadows and Northern Nevada in the study of our major water source. Intended as a ThinkQuest project, we hope to provide valuable information, resources, activities, and lesson plans in the fields of science, history, government, and language arts. A brief description of each section follows: Our Tour will provide a virtual field trip of the Truckee beginning with its source at Lake Tahoe to its destination at Pyramid Lake. On our History page we hope to offer some highlights of the very rich political and historical background of a waterway that is considered one of the most arbitrated, litigated, and legislated rivers in the nation. Critical to any study of a river basin is the Geology of its course. On this page we offer a brief study that rocky circuit that cuts through the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada range. In our Science section we will explore the physics, chemistry, and biological aspects of the Truckee. It is hoped that we will engage a collaborative internet project that will solicit data from each middle school in the Truckee Meadows in compilation of a database that will demonstrate the effects of several variables on the science of an everchanging river. We hope to provide data gathering points for each middle school closely approximating those sites already providing online, real-time streamflow information. For educators and parents perusing these pages we offer some lesson plans to accompany the above. |
