Here at Billinghurst Middle School, the Student Government consists of two representatives from each of the six teams. One seventh grade representative and one eighth grade representative. In addition, there are six representatives on the executive board. The executive board positions include: President,Communications, Treasurer, Secretary, Attendance and Fundraising.

The BDB Student Government consists of six committees: Student Store, BNN, Fundraising, Sports/Spirit, Veterans Day (Dance - 2nd semester), Web Site. Each committee has a set of goals and/or objectives.

1. BNN Committee

• put skits/announcements/commercials on BNN in a timely manner
• skits & commercials cover spirit days, fundraisers, etc.
• announcements cover dances, assemblies (dress code), etc.

2. Fundraising Committee

• get the word out to parents, students and teachers about school pop
• think of quarterly fundraisers like "kiss the pig" and put skits/announcements on BNN
• think of fundraisers for philanthropies like a canned food drive

3. Red/White/Blue Assembly Committee:

• get speakers, order balloons & balloon arch, helium tank
• make poppies for veterans
• arrange for McQueen Color Guard
• arrange for choir & jazz band presentations
• arrange a slide show
• make posters welcoming the veterans
• arrange for a flag presentation and reading
• special presentation for faculty members who are also veterans.

4. Sports & Spirit Committee

• make sure all athletes are recognized by decorating their lockers
• make sure every spirit day is advertised via speaking to advisories, making posters, putting skits/announcements on BNN, let advisory teachers know what to tell the kids to wear
• make sure to get a count list in the advisory teachers boxes prior to spirit day

5. Student Store Committee

• price list & up-to-date inventory list
• location schedule (selling to halls on different days)
• keep inventory up on supplies weekly
• skits/announcements on BNN to advertise items for sale
• sell to advisories every day

6. Web-site/Bulletin Boards Committee

• update and maintain current events/activities of the Student Government & on behalf of the school as a whole.
• keep the 2 Bulletin Boards decorated for School Spirit, announcements, etc.

The Student Government representatives have other duties in addition to their committee duties. For instance, the students are required to participate/help out during the 7th Grade Ice Cream Social, Parent Night, Spaghetti Night and Café Night. They are also asked to help out with ticket and concession sales before/during the four dances held throughout the school year.

It is the duty/obligation of each representative to support the school staff and the student body. Suggestions from each team are heard during the formal monthly meetings held on the first Friday of each month. The representatives and advisors make every effort possible to meet the needs/wants of the student body, although not all requests can be granted. The staff is recognized at different times throughout the school year for all their efforts and hard work.

All of the funds raised via sales of dance tickets, concessions and student store inventory go back to and benefit the student body as a whole.
