     Rules & Procedures (2005-2006)

 

            Billinghurst is offering shirts and shorts with the school logo and space for the studentís name at a low cost of $20.00.  These items are of the highest quality.  We hope this will save parents the hassle of searching for the proper clothes.  Individual locks for P.E. lockers are $5.00.

 

______ UNIFORM REQUIRMENTS

BOTTOMS:

            -Solid color boxer style, no pockets or zippers, worn ABOVE the knees and ABOVE the waist.

            -Sweat pants full length or above the knee, hemmed with no logos or designs.

            -The studentís last name must be on the left leg of the bottoms.

TOPS:

            -Solid color plain ìTî shirt, gray or white preferred.  No designs or logos.

            -No tank tops, V-necks or pockets.

            -Sweat shirts may be worn.

            The studentís first name must be across the chest and last name across the back of the top.

SWEATS:

            P.E. classes will go outside on cold days.  Sweats are strongly recommended, but not mandatory. 

These clothes also must be labeled. ñSolid colors. No logos. No zippers.

SHOES:

Please wear athletic type shoes that wonít scuff the gym floor.  Shoes must be properly laced and securely tied.  Loose laces are not allowed.  We recommend a separate pair of shoes for physical education classes. 

MANDATORY:  White socks

 

A)   All items must be properly labeled as described above and lettering should be at least 2î high.  Grades will be lowered if the clothes worn to gym classes are not appropriately labeled and logo free. 

B)    The clothes worn in gym classes must be different from what the student has worn to school.

C)    Clean uniforms are required at the beginning of each inspection week.  Failure to have a clean and complete uniform for inspection will lower the studentís citizenship grade and may result in detention or referral to the office.

NOTE:  Labeling is the studentís responsibility.  All labeling must be permanent.

 

______ DRESSING OUT

 

Students are required to dress out every day of class.  If a student fails to dress out, the following steps are taken:  First and second offenses, a warning will be issued and the citizenship grade lowered one full grade.  On the third offense, the studentís grade will be lowered and detention assigned to the student.  If the student does not have proper clothing, clean P.E. department loaners will be provided for you to wear.  P.E. department clothes are not to be loaned out or borrowed from another student.  Students who refuse to dress out are referred to the office for discipline and may be asked to phone a parent.

 

______ MEDICAL EXCUSES

Parental excuse notes, with a signature and phone number, must be written to excuse a student from participating up to a maximum of three consecutive P.E. department classes.  This may be done without a grade reduction.

Students must dress out on these days.  A physician note is required if their condition requires an extended time out of class.  Written projects are assigned in either instance.  Length will be determined based on length of excuse.  The written projects are considered part of the studentís participation in gym class and will be graded accordingly.

 

_____ CLASS INJURIES

Students must report all class injuries to the teacher at the time it occurs.

 

 

______ GENERAL RULES

 

   -Follow all school rules.

-Students must enter and exit the gym using the door nearest their locker room.

-Gum, food and candy, etc. are not allowed in gym areas.

-Walking on/across the gym floor with street shoes is not allowed.

-Coats and books are not allowed in gym areas.

-Body jewelry and watches are not to be worn during gym classes. (Post earring only)

                  *ALL NEW PIERCING IS SUBJECT TO CLASS RULES

-Glass containers and flammable materials are not allowed in the locker rooms.

 

_____ ACADEMIC GRADING

 

Earning an A in Physical Education can be achieved by any student willing to follow the Academic Grading Rubric for Daily Effort stated below.  Failure to adhere to the following academic standards will result in a below average grade.

 

Attending class*, dressing out appropriately, performing warm-ups and exercises to full health promoting potential, making personal fitness improvements on fitness tests, run times, etc., demonstrating knowledge of skills and rules during P.E. activities and contributing to class in a positive, respectful manner.

 

*Students are required to make-up all missed classes.  To get credit for classes missed, students must turn in a departmental make-up form to their teacher showing the 20 minutes of minimum exercise performed on their own time.  Forms will not be accepted without a parent signature.  Failure to make-up the class will result in a ì0î for the missed class in which they were absent.  If unable to exercise, students must provide a copy of a doctorís note to the make-up form along with a written assignment for credit. 

 

 

_______ CITIZENSHIP GRADING: Failure to follow general rules listed above along with the following:

 

      One full grade deduction:                                              One-half grade deduction:

      *Failure to dress out

*Foul language                                                             *Tardy to class

      *Inappropriate behavior                                                          *Out of roll call order

      *Gum chewing/eating food (detention)                         *Wearing watches/body jewelry

      *Disrespectful to instructor or classmates                    *Coat or jacket in P.E. areas

      *Leaving or entering locker room without permission

 

Continued infractions will result in notification and/or a telephone call to the parents or guardian and may also result in detention.  The parents or guardian will be responsible for transportation if detention is assigned before or after school.

 

STUDENT AND PARENT MUST SIGN AND RETURN THIS SYLLABUS TO THEIR P.E. TEACHER
